The MAAP program always asks if rehabilitation would do more harm than good before we put equipment on a legacy site. Sometimes we make tough decisions that take down mature vegetation, but only after consultations with the landowner and an in-depth inventory of the site to ensure that rehabilitation will indeed better the land. This legacy site was well vegetated with many odd slopes, old stockpiles and eroded areas. MAAP was able to return this 1 ha site back into usable land and planted 100 trees to replace the ones that were lost.
