Changes have been made to the Aggregate Resources Act, Ontario Regulation 244/97 and the Aggregate Resources of Ontario Provincial Standards.

Some changes took effect on September 1, 2020, others on April 1, 2021 and some operational requirements will be effective January 1, 2022.

Aggregates are usually sand, gravel, clay, earth and bedrock. They are used to make roads, subway tunnels, homes and other structures.

• Loose material, such as sand and gravel, is removed from a pit
• Solid bedrock, such as limestone and granite, is removed from a quarry
