The Carroll pit had been extracted decades earlier, the material used as road base locally. The pit was approximately 0.75 ha and being adjacent to a school, deemed a safety hazard. A grading plan was developed to diminish the steepness of the faces while preserving the larger cedar trees where possible. This pit was returned to a meadow for the landowners to enjoy.
